Hmmmm interesting. Funny you mention it because I was taking gaba not too long ago and it was in a mixture with some other stuff. Anyways, I think it was causing me to wake up kind of uncoordinated and feeling just kind of weird. Dissociative I guess you could say, which makes sense because it’s related to the NMDA receptors somehow I think. It supposedly “can’t” cross the blood brain barrier, at least this is repeated despite the fact that it can and does, it’s just an unreliable mechanism in which it does. Low levels of gaba were insinuated to absorb more in the brain also. I didn’t have this issue as if I took the full 750 mg I felt very strange consistently and none of the other supplements in the mixture would seem to do this.

Martin,

Next week when i get back in the gym from my break i am going to be doing the BCAA/fasted-state protocol. I know stimulants like caffeine will be okay to take pre-workout. but what about amino acids such as tyrosine and ALCAR.

i'm noticed when i tried to take tyrosine in the ., but i feel as if i'm kicked out of the "Fasting state". so i now save it for the 8 hour window.

By taking in tyrosine and ALCAR pre-workout with the caffeine, then the BCAAs right before the workout. would that be pretty much altering the fasted state of the body?

I know it might not matter in the long-scheme of things, but i'm just curious lol. thanks

I’m generally down on vegetarian protein powders. In my experience, they just don’t work as well as the animal-based ones. We’re not meant to get all our protein from vegetable sources, and our absorption of vegetable-based protein isn’t as efficient, so you have to consume far more pea protein powder just to get enough – and this stuff can get pretty pricey. No protein powder is perfectly Primal, but pea protein powder is even less so. If egg and milk protein powders are off limits for whatever reason, though, give pea protein a shot.

One more question: you said “The answer surely isn’t because intermittent fasting is the only pathway to results. People use methods in stark contrast to intermittent fasting and still get big, strong, and ripped.”
But do you think, as a former member of the Brohirrim, that for the skinny fat in particular, it IS the only way to go? I finally got my new diet with carb cycling down on paper, but I’m postponing the actual start, because I really don’t want to fail again…
The leangains method really seems to work fine, but I still can’t grasp on how I’ll be able o eat as much as I need to in so few meals (2-4)..
Do you think by just doing carbs cycle and eating the regular 6 meals a day I’ll see some change? I rember reading another article regarding skinny fats on kelly baggett’s site, in which he stated that the simple act of calorie cycling would change body’s hormonal response…
